The project serves as the global extension of the current Africana CHANGE (AC) program. Students will learn about community development methods in Salvador, Brazil through volunteering with Cross-Cultural Solutions, a grassroots organization that addresses critical global issues by providing meaningful and sustainable volunteer service to communities abroad, and contributing responsibly to local economies. Students will help tutor youth in Brazil and work in community-organizing projects. Upon return to the USA, students will design a social justice and multicultural infused curriculum for youth at our community partner Dudley High School. Proposed major themes are history, neo-colonialism, the arts, religion, and resilience. Video chats between youth in Brazil and at Dudley High School introduce direct global communication.
